You can use this as a checklist for practice or to create flashcards.

The Big Red Bug

Look at the bug! He can run, run, run. He is in the sun. He is a hot bug.
Dad is with the bug. "Can you see the bug?" his dad said. "It is a big bug!" The bug is on the red mat.
Focus Words in This Story:

CVC Words: Big (short i), red (short e), bug (short u), mat (short a), cup (short u), top (short o), run (short u), sun (short u), hot (short o), Dad (short a).
Reading Tips:
Point and Read: Encourage the child to point to each word as they read to build one-to-one correspondence.
Sound it Out: For words like b-u-g or m-a-t, have them "tap" each sound on their fingers before blending them together.
Find the Sight Words: Ask the child to go back and circle the sight words (like "the" or "see") in different colors.
