Marvelous, Muddy "M" - Mud, Monkeys, Music, and Mice.

Day 1: M is for Mud & Messy Play

Focus: Sensory exploration and the humming /m/ sound (like something is "mmm-mmm" delicious)

  • Lesson: Introduce the letter M. It looks like two mountain peaks side by side. Practice the /m/ sound—keep your lips pressed together like you just ate something yummy!

  • Craft: Mud Painting. Mix a little dirt with water (or use brown tempera paint) and let the children paint "Mud Monsters" on cardstock.

  • Activity: The Mud Kitchen. Use your backyard space to let the kids make "Mud Pies" with old bowls, spoons, and water. Talk about how the mud feels (Mushy, Muddy, Moist).

  • Books to Read: Stuck in the Mud by Jane Clarke.

  • Song: "The Muddy Puddle Jump."

    • Tune: The Hokey Pokey

    • You do the Muddy-Puddle-Dance and you turn yourself around,

    • That’s what it’s all about! (Clap twice)

  • Snack: Mud Pudding (Chocolate pudding with crushed Oreos on top).

Day 2: M is for Monkey

Focus: Gross motor skills and counting.
